I’ve been doing front-end design work for quite a few years now. I establish myself as somewhat of a professional. But I still end up on W3School every once and a while to check something.
Unlike many other web training sites that look lively and good-looking, W3Schools looks a bit flat and boring. However, it is still a good choice for those who are just looking for a quick syntax check or looking to start from the beginning with the most basic lessons in HTML and CSS.
In addition, W3School provides interactive tutorials that explains everything in plain and simple language and allows you to play with markup live on the site.
For a beginner who doesn’t know quite where to start with coding stuff, W3school is a god choice.

Like its competitor – Treehouse, Lynda provide a wide range of video-based training courses for web design, development, graphic design, professional skills, management, and beyond.
In addition, its training tutorials also come with course files, FAQ abilities, and transcripts that allow for different learning styles. For example, users can choose reading the transcripts rather than watching videos if they prefer reading than watching.
4 Google code university
Free
If you are someone who are looking to pick up AJAX knowledge to add a bit of polish on your website, then Google code university is good for you.
Google Code University’s tutorial also covers basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This is a perfect place for beginners to start with their web design skills form ground up.
5 Opera web standard curriculum

Opera web standard curriculum was developed by people who work at the Opera browser. This free online training resource introduces the basics of web design and development high-level concepts including HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
Like W3School, it applies plain text rather than visually seductive. But its contents are easy to understand and follow.
This is a good place for beginners who want to learn the art of web design.
